Rev. Melissa Heyward
Rev. Heyward is a licensed and ordained Minister. She serves as an Associate Minister at the Oak Grove Baptist Church-Harrisburg where she currently is the Membership Counseling and Clergy Support Minister. She is a co-leader of the GriefShare grief support program and also teaches Sunday School, Christian Education Sessions. She has also held positions at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
For 26 years, Rev Heyward has worked in the areas of college student affairs, adolescent counseling, and as a Social Worker in Child Protective Services. She was also employed as a Counselor/Advocate for persons living with severe mental illness and their families. Closest to her heart, is a love and passion for teaching, as well as designing and presenting workshops in a manner that is relevant regarding current issues facing humanity.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from Bennett College, and a Master’s degree in Counseling from The University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She also received a Masters of Divinity Degree in Pastoral Counseling and Chaplaincy at The Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary.
