Sonyia Richardson, PhD, MSW, LCSW
Dr. Sonyia Richardson a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, entrepreneur, researcher, author, and educator. As an Assistant Professor at UNC Charlotte, her teaching and service interests focus on the intersection of urban education, mental health, and social work. Additionally, she focuses on trauma and suicide-related behaviors among racially diverse youth. Dr. Richardson received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (University of North Carolina Charlotte), Master Degree in Social Work (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and a Bachelor Degree in Psychology (University of North Carolina Charlotte).
Recently, Dr. Richardson was appointed to the Andrea Harris Social, Economic, Environmental, and Health Equity Task Force by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. In this role, she is charged in helping to address the disparities in communities of color that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Richardson served a three-year term with the National Institutes of Mental Health, Adult Mental Health Interventions Subcommittee as a Public Reviewer
Dr. Richardson is the Owner of Another Level Counseling and Counseling located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Another Level Counseling and Consultation has provided a continuum of behavioral healthcare services in Mecklenburg County for over 13 years. Her practice and administrative experience increase her sensitivity and provide her with a unique advantage to serving vulnerable populations. Dr. Richardson currently serves as a Delegate for the National Association of Social Workers North Carolina Chapter and was appointed by the National President to the Private Practice Specialty Subcommittee to provide expertise and guidance to private practitioners nationally.
